Rockwall, TX (February 18, 2026) – After much prayer and thoughtful deliberation with his family, Councilmember Sedric Thomas announced today that he will not seek re-election to Rockwall City Council, Place 4.
Thomas has served the City of Rockwall for seven years, including prior service as Chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission before being elected to the City Council.
“Serving the residents of Rockwall has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Thomas said. “Together, we have worked through significant growth, development pressures, infrastructure planning, and policy decisions — always focused on facts, fiscal responsibility, and protecting the character of our community.”
Thomas cited increasing professional responsibilities and the desire to prioritize family as the primary reasons for his decision.
“This decision comes after much prayer and discussion with my family. Leadership requires recognizing seasons of change. At this time, my expanding role at work and my commitment to my family must take priority.”
Thomas emphasized that he will continue to serve fully and intentionally through the end of his term in May, remaining focused on five key priorities for the City:
1. Strengthening economic competitiveness
2. Ensuring public safety
3. Maintaining local control
4. Preserving Rockwall’s community character
5. Addressing traffic congestion, particularly on TxDOT-managed roadways
“Our council must remain disciplined and focused on these core strategies. Rockwall’s growth requires steady leadership and thoughtful planning. I remain fully committed to that work until my final day in office.”
Thomas expressed gratitude to fellow councilmembers, city staff, community leaders, and residents for their partnership and support.
“Rockwall’s future is bright. I look forward to continuing to serve our community in other capacities and supporting initiatives that strengthen our city.”
