Local PetSmart stores will host adoptable pets March 23-29 as part of PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week
Rowlett, TX (March 21, 2026) – Thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities, Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAS) will help more cats in the North Texas area get healthy, adoption-ready, and into loving homes. The $50,000 grant will support our efforts to rescue and adopt over 900 cats this year. National Adoption Week events at local PetSmart stores are taking place March 23-29, 2026.
Millions of pets enter U.S. shelters each year, placing increasing strain on local organizations working with limited space and resources. In North Texas, shelters continue to face high intake rates and capacity challenges. FRAs alone takes in approximately 90 cats each month, all of whom require sterilization, vaccinations, microchipping, and FIV/FeLV testing before they can be safely adopted.
Funds from PetSmart Charities will directly support these critical services, ensuring that more animals receive the medical care, nutrition, and preparation needed to become adoption-ready and find permanent homes faster. These funds will also be used to lower adoption fees during the event offering reductions up to 50% off normal rates.
“Because of this funding, more pets in our community will receive the care they need to become adoption-ready and find loving families faster,” said Deana Seigler, President of Friends of Rescue Animals. “With approximately 90 cats entering our care each month, this support is critical to ensuring every animal receives the medical attention they need and the opportunity to find a safe, permanent home.”
“Our animal welfare partners in local communities are determined to keep pace with the need and deserve support,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities. “We’re proud to work alongside Friends of Rescue Animals and appreciate the critical steps they take to advocate for the animals that come through their doors in need of love, safety, care, and nutrition. Please consider supporting their lifesaving work through volunteering, fostering, adopting, or donating.”
PetSmart Charities National Adoption Week is a special time during the year when local PetSmart stores host adoptable pets in welcoming environments where potential adopters can meet them. Staff and volunteers are available to answer questions and help families find the right match, while also offering guidance on products and services needed for a successful start.
