Rockwall-Heath Graduate Sakari Houser Receives Prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

ROCKWALL, TX (June 4, 2026) — Sakari Houser, a 2026 graduate of Rockwall-Heath High School, has been selected to receive a $2,500 STAR Scholarship from the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter BR of Hamilton, Ohio.

The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship was established in 2009 to provide scholarships to exceptional high school senior women in their final year of high school who plan to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the United States or Canada during the following academic year. The competitive STAR Scholarship recognizes women who demonstrate excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and potential for future success.

Chapter BR has been part of the Hamilton, Ohio, community since it was organized in 1950. Local P.E.O. chapters can be found throughout the United States and Canada, including in Rockwall.

Sakari Houser is a member of the Rockwall-Heath High School Varsity Choir and the a cappella groups Infiniti and Beyond. She is also an Eagle Scout and an active participant in the youth ministry program at First United Methodist Church in Rockwall. This fall, she will attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to pursue a degree in Business Sustainability and Nonprofit Management. Combining her passion for leadership, service, and community impact, Sakari hopes to one day establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) has been motivating, educating, and celebrating women for more than 155 years. Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 129,000 women pursue their educational goals by providing approximately $462 million* in grants, scholarships, awards, and loans. The Sisterhood is also the primary support organization for Cottey College. Through membership, the P.E.O. Sisterhood has brought together more than half a million women across the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping women advance through education while providing support and encouragement along the way. In addition to its educational philanthropies, the P.E.O. Sisterhood provides a framework of support and community for all members.

What began as a bond of friendship among seven women in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, has grown into one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America, with more than 5,400 chapters.
