Rockwall ISD Art Students Shine at 2026 Junior VASE Regional Event

ROCKWALL, TX (June 2, 2026) — Rockwall ISD is proud to announce the exceptional performance of its middle school artists at the 2026 Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) Junior Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE). This prestigious competition brings together the most talented young artists in the region to demonstrate their technical skill, creative vision, and ability to articulate their artistic process.

Junior VASE is the premier competition for middle and junior high school art students in Texas. During the event, students are interviewed by certified judges and their work is evaluated based on a rigorous standard of excellence. Students strive to earn a Rating 4 (Superior), which signifies a work of art that is exceptional in both execution and concept.

The highest honor achievable at the regional level is the Platinum Medal. This distinction is reserved for the top 10% of all entries that received a Rating 4. These works represent the “best of the best,” demonstrating a level of mastery that goes beyond standard expectations.

We would like to extend a special congratulations to our 2026 Platinum Medalists:

Karen Almanza Leon (Rakow Middle School, Teacher: Amber Forgey) — “Favorite Puppy”

Sebastian Gonzalez (Rakow Middle School, Teacher: Amber Forgey) — “Reflected Sphere”

David Limones (Rakow Middle School, Teacher: Amber Forgey) — “14am”

Brynn Krantz (Rakow Middle School, Teacher: Aaron Forgey) — “Mushroom Hat”

Abrielle Torres (Cain Middle School, Teacher: Katherine Wallace) — “Empty”

In addition to our medalists, 70 Rockwall ISD students earned a Rating 4 (Superior), showcasing the strength of the visual arts programs across the district. These students dedicated countless hours to planning and crafting their artwork and preparing for the professional interview portion of the event.

Rockwall ISD would like to thank our dedicated art teachers for their tireless support of these young artists.
