Garland, TX (February 20, 2024) – Garland ISD is pleased to announce the return of its highly anticipated Black History Program for the third consecutive year. Under the theme “My Story, My Dance,” this year’s event promises an evening of celebration and cultural enrichment.
Hosted by the Garland ISD Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Department, the Black History Program takes place on Friday, February 23, 2024, starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will be at the Granville Arts Center at 300 N. 5th St., Garland, TX.
Attendees can look forward to an exciting lineup of performances, culinary delights, artistic expressions, and engaging activities that honor the African American and Black American experience. The program aims to showcase students’ talents across the district while providing an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate diversity and achievement.
Highlights of the evening include:
– Student Art Exhibit: Guests will have the opportunity to explore an impressive display of artwork from talented students across the district.
– Culinary Experience: Student Nutrition Services will serve up delicious dishes rooted in African American history
– Educational Opportunities: Attendees will have access to resources provided by district and community partners
– Student Performances: Emceed by students from the Black Student Association at Sachse and Rowlett High Schools, the program will feature captivating dance performances and historical insights.
Dr. Lakisha Culpepper, Garland ISD Liaison for the African American Community, emphasizes the program’s goals, stating, “We want to provide attendees with a deeper understanding of Black history while spotlighting the diverse students, talents, and opportunities within our district and across our tri-city community of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse.”
The Black History Program serves as a platform for networking and building connections, highlighting the importance of community engagement, and celebrating the rich heritage of African American culture.
