Rockwall, TX (November 19, 2024) – The Leadership Rockwall Class of 2025 had the opportunity to visit the Rockwall Independent School District’s (ISD) Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy, gaining firsthand insight into the district’s innovative educational programs and the challenges of preparing students for their futures.
The day began with an overview of the ISD and role of the Rockwall ISD Education Foundation. The Education Foundation was established as a non-profit that supports teachers with enrichment of students through funding that would otherwise not be available to students. The Leadership Class presented checks to teachers who were recipients of the Innovative Teach Grants. On Tuesday, the Foundation and Leadership Class presented around $20,000 in funding to educators who applied. This year’s total amount issued is $32,279.88.
Upon Returning to the Academy, the class was served lunch from Crave Cafe. The afternoon included an address by Superintendent, Dr. John Villarreal, discussing the district’s current initiatives and future goals. Dr. Villarreal highlighted the ongoing efforts to ensure that staff and students are equipped with the skills and opportunities needed to succeed in an ever-evolving world. He also shared the challenges the district faces in a rapidly growing community while maintaining excellence in academics, technology integration, and student support services.
During the visit, the class toured the Academy, a key institution within the Rockwall ISD that serves students with unique needs and challenges. The tour provided participants with a deeper understanding of the Academy’s mission to support students through career and technical education.
The Leadership Rockwall program, designed to develop community leaders, offers participants a deeper understanding of the key issues affecting the city of Rockwall and its residents.
