Rockwall, TX (August 5, 2025) – Rockwall-Heath High School’s own Gennie Holcomb has been named the 2026 Region 10 Secondary Teacher of the Year, a prestigious honor recognizing her unwavering dedication, leadership, and impact in the classroom and beyond. Selected from a highly competitive field of 65 remarkable secondary educators across the region, Holcomb stood out for her passion, innovation, and deep connection with students.
For Holcomb, teaching isn’t just a profession—it’s a lifelong calling. From childhood dreams of one day leading a classroom to 22 years of pouring her heart into education, 21 of those years have been spent serving Rockwall ISD students, shaping the minds and futures of thousands.
In her government classes, students don’t just learn—they’re empowered. Holcomb encourages them to be informed, engaged citizens who understand the importance of advocacy and leadership. Her impact is lasting. “This recognition is so fitting for how much she does for us and the rest of our community,” said recent graduate Jake Gist. “I’m so proud to be her student.”
Beyond the classroom, Holcomb hosts an annual alumni event, inviting former students back to share real-world experiences with current high school seniors. This unique tradition not only strengthens the school’s sense of community but also gives students a glimpse of the road ahead.
“It is a huge honor for me to represent Rockwall ISD and share our story of excellence,” Holcomb said. “And to my hawk family, thank you so much for your daily love and encouragement. It is always a great day to be a hawk.”

Holcomb will advance to the state level to compete for the Texas Teacher of the Year hosted by the Texas Association of School Administrators in the fall.
