Fate, Texas (February 10, 2026) — The City of Fate is proud to announce the hiring of Emily Goodrum as its new Economic Development Director. Emily will officially begin her role on February 24.
Emily brings extensive experience in downtown revitalization, retail development, public art, and placemaking. She most recently played a key role in the transformation of downtown Garland and previously worked in downtown-focused redevelopment efforts in Carrollton. In addition to her public sector experience, she has a background in commercial real estate, specializing in retail development.
Emily holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Dallas native with a deep understanding of North Texas communities.
City leadership met with Emily in downtown Garland to see firsthand the projects she helped bring to life. Walking through the town square, she shared detailed insight into how strategic partnerships, thoughtful development, and intentional placemaking contributed to the area’s transformation.
Beyond her impressive professional background, Emily stood out during the selection process for her humility, intelligence, vision, and proactive approach. Prior to her interview, she independently visited Fate, toured the downtown area, explored neighborhoods, and conducted in-depth research on the community — demonstrating a genuine commitment to understanding and investing in Fate’s future.
Her leadership comes at a pivotal time for the City of Fate. With transformative projects such as Lafayette Crossing beginning development, redevelopment efforts launching at Fate Station Park, and continued commercial growth throughout the city, Fate is entering a new era of economic opportunity.
“I am so honored and excited to join the City of Fate as Director of Economic Development at such a pivotal moment for the community. As one of the fastest-growing cities in North Texas and the nation, strategic economic development is essential to ensure that this growth continues a strong and sustainable path. I look forward to building on the tremendous momentum and work already accomplished by the Fate team, and I am thrilled to collaborate with such a dedicated group to expand opportunities for residents, businesses, and visitors—while continuing to support a high quality of life for all who call Fate home. Fate is a family-centered community rich with opportunities for growth, innovation, and long-term legacy. The American Dream is alive and well in Fate, and I am excited to help strengthen and grow that promise in this role.” says Emily.
Emily’s experience in cultivating vibrant, high-quality developments will play a key role in guiding the city’s next chapter and ensuring long-term success for residents and businesses alike.
“We are excited about the vision and expertise Emily brings to our team,” said Steven Downs, Assistant City Manager. “Her experience in downtown redevelopment and placemaking aligns perfectly with where Fate is headed.”
