Rockwall, TX (February 11, 2026) – Redeemer Rockwall, a church located right off the square, will hold the first Sunday services in its renovated sanctuary February 22, 2026.
The church, which has been meeting at Dobbs Elementary School while completing renovations, will resume its normal 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Sunday services. Redeemer, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, began holding worship services in the historic sanctuary at 306 E. Rusk Street in 2004.
“Where we worship matters – it’s where heaven and earth meet,” Senior Pastor Zach Pummill said. “The new sanctuary feels simultaneously hospitable and awe-inspiring – a fitting place to encounter the living God each week.”
The sanctuary, the site of worship downtown for more than 100 years, was showing signs of age. Renovations have opened up the cramped interior, with improvements including:
- Replacing carpeting with wood floors;
- Removing tiles to reveal the wood-slat ceiling;
- Installing new lighting to honor the period architecture while improving illumination; and
- Reconfiguring the stage to improve sightlines and function.
Workers have removed the old wooden pews and the rear wall, absorbing old rooms into the worship hall and enabling the church to install new seating and increase its capacity by roughly 40 percent, to 299. The new fellowship hall, foyer, and restrooms adjoin the sanctuary.
First Baptist Church of Rockwall built the sanctuary at the corner of Rusk and San Augustine streets in 1908 and worshipped there until 1970. Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and then Lakeshore, a nondenominational church, occupied the building for many years.
Redeemer, a member of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), attracts about 450 people to its Sunday services, roughly triple the number a few years ago. The church draws families from not only Rockwall but also Fate, Royse City, Lavon, Wylie, Garland, Greenville, Forney, Rowlett and beyond to its services.
Redeemer leaders decided not to pursue a new campus, which would cost millions, so the church could continue funding missions even as it makes room for more people. Redeemer partners with churches in India and Malawi and supports the Genesis Child Development Center in Rowlett.
