Rockwall County 2027 Thoroughfare Plan Update

Rockwall County 2027 Thoroughfare Plan Update

ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX (May 4, 2026) — Rockwall County is updating its Thoroughfare Plan to prepare for continued growth and evolving transportation needs. This long-range plan will guide future roadway connections, preserve needed corridors, and support safe and efficient travel across the County. This update builds on the County’s Strategic Plan 2050 and the 2019 Thoroughfare Plan, incorporating current data, community input, and regional coordination.

Why Updating the Thoroughfare Plan Matters

Rockwall County is experiencing ongoing growth and development. In 2017, when the last County Thoroughfare Plan efforts began, Rockwall County’s population was over 96,700; today, in 2026, it is around 135,500; and by 2050, it is projected to be 245,000. This rapid growth underscores the importance of planning now.

Updating the plan ensures that transportation strategies reflect current conditions and are based on the latest data, leading to relevant project and program recommendations.
