(ROCKWALL, TX — Oct. 13, 2016) Rockwall County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Mark Russo is on the Republican ballot for the Nov. 8 election.
“It’s my goal to continue to run a consistent court while utilizing cost effective emerging technologies and by allowing for more court access online,” said the 40-year-old Russo. “It has been an honor serving and building the office of the Justice of the Peace court from the ground up. I am proud to have a customer-oriented office that is efficient and accessible.”
He has a diverse professional background – ranging from earning an Associate Technology Culinary Arts degree (Chef) from the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute to a broadcasting career in radio and television as producer, cameraman and talk show host.
“My varied background gave me a sense of direction,” Russo said. “I came to Rockwall in 2004 for work producing television shows. My sense of adventure, community involvement, love of history and local government led to my decision to run for the Rockwall City Council in 2006.”
Although he lost that initial council race, Russo won his first 2-year term in 2008. He was reelected in 2010 and 2012. His decision to run for Justice of the Peace in 2012 was a result of his great need to help others and from learning how very important the job is in assisting residents. Winning that race, he resigned from City Council on Sept. 21, 2012 and started his JP career in January of 2013.
“I love being a Justice of the Peace for my community,” Russo explained. “It’s a job that requires multi-faceted management skills. I learned that I can really make a positive difference in this county.”
As a Justice of the Peace, Russo’s duties are as varied as his careers. As an example, he has the authority to
- · Issue warrants for search and arrest
- · Issue Mental Health warrants
- · Serve as Magistrate for the courts
- · Act as Truancy Court Judge
- · Serve as coroner in counties with no provision for a medical examiner
- · Serve as trial judge for Class C misdemeanors (fine only offenses)
- · Serve as a Justice Court Judge
“I truly enjoy the ability to wear so many different hats and serve the citizens of Rockwall County,” Russo said.
