Rockwall Fire Department expanded services soon to include basic life-support

(ROCKWALL, TX — Jan. 12, 2017) The Rockwall City Council has voted to move forward with a limited First Responder Organization (FRO) program to enhance services to citizens. Rockwall firefighters will soon provide additional basic life support through the new FRO program. This will help with delivering critical care on major medical and trauma calls, where time is of the essence.

The City Council’s approval of additional personnel in the fiscal year 2017 budget and an increased minimum staffing of two firefighters per fire station allows for this expansion of services. Preparations including training with the EMS provider on medical protocols, and other work required to formally become a state registered first responder are currently underway.

“We’re happy to be able to provide this expanded level of service,” said Rockwall Fire Chief, Mark Poindexter. “We believe this move will help us make a difference in the overall safety and welfare of the residents of Rockwall.”

The primary EMS response for the area will still be offered by a provider through contract with the Rockwall County Emergency Services Corporation. The Rockwall Fire Department plans to begin performing first responder services this summer.
