Texas artist AG Ford visits Nebbie Williams Elementary

(ROCKWALL, TX — Jan. 26, 2017) Nebbie Williams Elementary School hosted Texas artist AG Ford, illustrator of over 20 books including more than one New York Times bestseller. Ford gave two assemblies, one for kindergarten through second grade and one for third grade through sixth.

“He was pretty cool,” said fourth grader Betty Backs. “I think being an illustrator would be pretty hard work. He was nice and can draw really well.” She, along with the several other students who attended the assemblies, listened as Mr. Ford read aloud one of the books that he has illustrated.

“He was very inspirational,” said Mrs. Gielow, Nebbie’s principal. She found Mr. Ford’s message to be profound and extremely beneficial to the students, as did other audience members. Along with showing the students how he learned to be an illustrator, and his many trials along the way, AG Ford repeated many times that illustration, like anything else in life, takes repetition to master. He started off each assembly by telling the students that he was not born a good artist. “No one is born great at doing something. No one is born a genius. You have to work at it over and over. It takes repetition. Practice. Practice. Practice. You keep doing it, keeping practicing, keep trying, until you can do it well.”
