(ROYSE CITY, TX — May 7, 2018) In honor of The National Day of Prayer on May 3, the City of Royse City conducted an outdoor prayer vigil which included the mayor, religious and civic leaders. The Post Chaplain was included in the ceremony by praying for the U.S. military and veterans. In attendance from American Legion Post 100 were members Dan Smith and Harry Campbell.
“When you look at what is happening in today’s world, we believe more prayer is needed and it is refreshing to be in a city where prayer is important to them,” said Post 100 First Commander Jason Castleberry. “We want to thank the city for the opportunity to represent our military and veterans in this moment of unity.”
The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
The theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer was “Pray for America – UNITY,” based upon Ephesians 4:3 — “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
