(ROCKWALL, TX — February 26, 2019) This spring, Sabine Creek Ranch in Royse City (576 Sabine Creek Rd.) welcomes beginner bands, choirs and orchestras across North Texas for its 1st Annual SpringFest. The epic end-of-school-year music festival invites student musicians out for a fun-filled day of music and exciting recreational activities on the ranch’s sprawling 330 acres. The event will span six dates, April 16-18 and April 24-26, and will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Music groups will get the chance to play for experienced adjudicators inside Sabine Creek’s air-conditioned, indoor events center offering excellent acoustics for performers. Groups can play two songs of their choice, and receive a rating and encouraging feedback from the adjudicators. Afterwards, students can enjoy a delicious lunch along with a variety of activities offered at the camp including a rock climbing wall, zip lining, sand volleyball, basketball, hayrides, obstacle courses, animal exhibits, and much more.
Sabine Creek Ranch Founder Dr. Ed Walker drew his inspiration for SpringFest from the recently-closed Sandy Lake Amusement Park, which brought hundreds of school music groups from the metroplex to its gates each year with its music festival, FunFest. After hearing about the closure of the park last year, Walker wanted to keep the Sandy Lake tradition alive by offering an event where students could hone their music skills and have fun in a camp-like atmosphere.
“I played at Sandy Lake’s very first festival with my middle school band from Duncanville and subsequently spent most of my career in music,” Walker said. “With SpringFest, we’re looking to continue the opportunities for young people to perform and thrive in school music programs.”
SpringFest looks to be a big success in just its first year, with over 3,500 students and 60 groups signed up at the time of this writing.
This year also marks the 15-year anniversary for Sabine Creek Ranch. Walker and his family opened the ranch in 2003 to provide camp opportunities for youth across the region. Over the years, the ranch has expanded to include cabins and hotel rooms to accommodate up to 350 campers for overnight events, meeting rooms for large or small groups, office space, a dining hall with a commercial kitchen, and many recreational opportunities. Sabine Creek offers a ton of exciting camps for kids to build lasting memories with friends, including day camps, preteen camps for churches, group youth camps, and sports camps.
