County Judge David Sweet orders Shelter In Place for Rockwall County

In a meeting of the Commissioners Court this morning, March 24, Rockwall County Judge David Sweet issued the following Shelter In Place (SIP) Order for Rockwall County, to go into effect at 11:59 p.m. on March 24 and last until 11:59 p.m. on April 15:

“I know this is a tough spot for every one of us,” said Judge Sweet. “Never in my wildest imagination could I have dreamed that we would be in this situation. Our primary focus right now is to center our efforts around stopping the spread of COVID-19. We’re all in this together, and each and every one of us has a personal responsibility to continue practicing social distancing in order to flatten the curve.”

The Commissioners Court unanimously approved to extend indefinitely the Declaration of Disaster in Public Health for the County issued by Judge Sweet on March 20, which was originally to last for seven days and superseded the declaration order issued from Judge Sweet on March 17.

The court also voted unanimously to approve an order amending the Rockwall County Emergency Management Plan. The amendment included that failure to comply with the Disaster Declaration can result in a fine not to exceed $1,000 or confinement in jail not to exceed 180 days.
