Royse City’s oldest citizen, Christine Meeks, passed away Saturday, April 21 at the age of 102. She was born on February 3, 1910 in Caddo Mills, Texas.
In 1926, she married Benny Meeks and they had nine children. When asked to recount how many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grand children she has – well, no one ever did figure out just what the total is.
She was a lifetime member of The Women’s Missionary Society and co-founder of the Meeks Chapel AME (African Methodist Episcopal Church), which was named after her. She was a gracious lady, with wisdom that only years could bring.
