Get nine lives for nine dollars

ROCKWALL, TX (June 12, 2014) A wildly successful national cat adoption promotion returns this week when Rockwall Pets joins more than 130 animal rescue groups and shelters nationwide to partner with Best Friends Animal Society in a campaign called “9 Lives for $9”.

Adopt any cat nine months or older from Rockwall Pets for only $9 from June 14-22. This offer is good at any Rockwall Pets adoption location, including Petco in Rockwall and Unleashed by Petco in Rowlett.

Last year more than 2,100 rescued cats joined families across the country during this promotion. In addition to Best Friends Animal Society locations in Los Angeles and Utah, animal shelters and rescue groups across the country are participating in this year’s promotion. Like Rockwall Pets, these groups are all members of Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network.

Jackson Galaxy, cat behaviorist, author and star of Animal Planet’s “My Cat From Hell” said the 9 Lives for $9 adoption promotion creates a “wonderful opportunity to add some love to your life and save a cat’s life at the same time. That’s why I’m so excited to be a part of the Best Friend’s special adoption drive. It’s a great time to add some love to your life and save a cat’s life. Talk about a win/win! We all have a part to play if we want to save them all; 9 Lives for $9 makes it easy. What you can do is get a cat! If you have one, get another!”

Judah Battista, Best Friends Animal Society’s director of local city programs and animal care, said: “Once you bring these engaging creatures into your home, you will come up with nine reasons of your own why they add so much to your life. Reducing adoption fees during last year’s promotion helped to increase cat adoption numbers, and some of our partners even reported increased adoptions for dogs and other species as well.

“The special-event feel of the ‘9 Lives for $9″ promotion encourages people to consider adopting rescued cats,” Battista added.

Best Friends Animal Society is a national animal welfare organization focused on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. An authority and leader in the No Kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation’s largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country. Since its founding in 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from 17 million per year to about four million.

Rockwall Pets is a nonprofit organization which has partnered with Best Friends to ending the killing of shelter pets. To enhance its No Kill advocacy, Rockwall Pets rescues animals at risk of dying in area animal shelters, gives them full veterinary care and finds them a permanent home. Rockwall Pets led campaigns to turn the Rockwall and Royse City animal shelters into No Kill facilities. Both shelters now have save rates in excess of 95%.

The Network is comprised of 501(c)(3) public charity animal welfare groups and shelters committed to saving the lives of homeless pets through active adoption and/or spay/neuter programs. Network partners are provided fundraising opportunities and adoption events, consultations with Best Friends staff, assistance with networking animals, and the opportunity to apply for Lifesaving Grants.
