Rockwall Chamber luncheon focuses on how to work with, market to millennials

(ROCKWALL, TX – April 27, 2016) The Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly partnership luncheon, presented by Hormonal Health, Wellness, and Aesthetic Centers at Lake Pointe Church on Wednesday, April 20.

The luncheon covered the intriguing topic of millennials, the next generation of business professionals, and how to work with and market to an age group whose interests are ever changing.  Sylvia Sotelo Kidd of Ebby Halliday Realtors was the moderator of a panel of five professionals from select industries who covered the topic, and included:  April English of English Insurance Group, Ann Sharber of Interstate All Battery Center, Bobby Montgomery of Lake Pointe Health Network, Brandon Sears of Guaranty Bank & Trust, and Evan Matteson of The Matteson Group – Coldwell Banker APEX Realtors.

The panel discussed how to work with and reach millennials through varying techniques that appeal to their interests and needs. Sylvia Sotelo Kidd asked the panel how hiring has changed in last ten years and what is the best way to connect to those who would be a good fit for a position.

Bobby Montgomery said, “The millennials generation is faced with the challenge of having almost all online applications, reducing the opportunity to meet face to face as often.” He continued, “However, to counteract the online application challenge employers often times look on LinkedIn or other social media applications to see what the potential employee could offer a company.” April English said, “To increase the possibility of meeting a potential employer or making connections for the millennials will often time’s attend community events or professional gatherings to expand their network.”

Social Media and millennials was also a hot topic during the luncheon. Ann Sharber explained the importance of having a strong social media presence and encouraging followers of businesses to share their posts. Brandon Sears said, “The more that you as a business can let people know about what is happening, the more that people will be talking about your business in conversations, both online and off, leading to potential sales or new clients.”

Another topic covered by the panel was millennials decision making tactics. Evan Matteson said, “Many millennials will make major decisions after getting to know the business and discussing the pros and cons with trusted family members or friends.” The panel all noted the creativity of this generation, adding that their keen ability to work with changing technology on a daily basis strengthens their appeal as an employee in the work place.

Next month’s luncheon will be on Wednesday, May 18 at Lake Pointe Church in the Children’s Building and will feature the Leadership Rockwall Class graduation ceremony. To purchase tickets or tables, go to rockwallchamber.org/events.
