Bras for the Cause: Rockwall Women’s League wins BRAniac award while raising cancer awareness, funds

(ROCKWALL, TX – Oct. 30, 2017) The Rockwall Women’s League joined businesses and individuals from across Hunt County and surrounding communities Oct. 12th for the Ninth Annual Bras for the Cause event.

This fundraiser, which includes organizations entering creative, decorative bras into a competition, raises money for the Hunt Regional Healthcare Foundation and helps raise awareness and funds for cancer patients.

Hundreds of decorated bras were on display throughout Greenville that evening.  Entering the competition is free and bra-makers were able to enter on their own or with a group of co-workers or friends.  This year the money raised is being used to help fund a 4D CT scanner for the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center at Hunt Regional.  With this technology, cancer radiation treatment is made faster and easier on patients and also provides more precise treatment, allowing for greater preservation of healthy tissue.

Each year, several awards are given out based on votes from the public, in the form of a glittery pink “Brabie” statuette.  This year, Rockwall Women’s League was proud to receive the BRAniac award for their “Mardi Bras.”  Designed and created by Women’s League members Caren Williams and Chris Ruszkiewicz, the Mardi Gras-themed bra pays homage to the upcoming Women’s League Bayou Bash gala.

Over 5,000 Swarovski crystals in emerald, purple velvet and aurum gold were hand placed on a purple bra and a detachable gold piece adds elegance to the center of the undergarment.  A skirt of purple and green with added peacock feathers and a lighted rotating base completed the look of the bra.
