Lewisville Community Theater to present ‘Tuna Does Vegas’

(Lewisville) Greater Lewisville Community Theater will hold its annual fundraiser show with its first production of “Tuna Does Vegas” at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles St. in the heart of Old Town Lewisville.

The play, which will be the first full-length GLCT show at MCL Grand, will be performed four times on Aug. 27-28 and Sept. 3-4 in the facility’s 3,000-square-foot black box theater.

“Tuna Does Vegas” is the latest series of comic adventures involving the wacky residents of the fictional Tuna, Texas, created as a simple party skit based on a political cartoon more than 20 years ago in Austin. Talented creators Joe Sears, Jaston Williams and Ed Howard were the imaginative authors that parlayed the sketch into a critically acclaimed production that has entertained audiences across the country.

The eclectic band of citizens that make up the town are portrayed by only two performers, making this continuing satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna – men, women, children and animals.

The franchise started with “Greater Tuna” and expanded to include shows centered around Christmas (“A Christmas Tuna”) and Independence Day (“Red White and Tuna”). This time, the town’s wacky residents hit the road when radio personality Arles Struvie announces on air that he and his wife, Bertha Bumiller, are renewing their marital vows in Las Vegas — and everyone in Tuna attends for a rambling romp through Sin City.

Show times are 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday both weekends. Tickets are $25 and benefit the GLCT scholarship program. Reservations can be made by calling the GLCT Box Office at 972.221.7469 (SHOW). For more information, visit glct.org.
