Classical guitarist Maud Laforest at MCL Grand

(Lewisville) Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater will conclude the inaugural “Around the World” concert series on Saturday, Sept. 10, with a performance by classical guitarist Maud Laforest, presented by City of Lewisville in cooperation with Lewisville Lake Symphony.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the MCL Grand Performance Hall, and will include a brief intermission.

Tickets are $15 ($10 for seniors age 65 and older or children age 12 and younger) and can be purchased at MCLGrand.tix.com or at the Customer Service window at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church St., during regular business hours. Lewisville residents can purchase single-show tickets for $5 each, either in advance at City Hall or on Saturday evening at the MCL Grand box office. Current driver’s license or utility bill will be required to receive the resident discount.

Laforest is a talented French-born guitarist who impresses audiences around the world with her wide repertoire, great musicality and flawless technique. Born in France, she started the guitar at age 4. She later moved to England, where she made her first public appearance at age 10. In 1996, she settled in Texas to study at SMU with Robert Guthrie.

She is a former student of Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory, where she holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Guitar Performance. She has won numerous prizes in international competitions, including the Guitar Foundation of America, the Mottola International Guitar Competition (Italy), and the Arhanes International Guitar Competition (Greece).

Around The World concert series at MCL Grand features performers who bring a distinctive taste of international culture through music and dance. The lineup has included some of the finest European and African performances groups seen in North Texas.

Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, opened in January. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville reached a multi-year agreement with the city last year for naming rights at the center.

To reach the MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. The MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Parking is not allowed on the grass lot across Church Street from the center.
