Rotarians are known for their service-minded, others before self attitude. The Rockwall Noon Rotary Club recently exhibited their good news attitude and made a positive difference in the lives of our nation’s service men and women and their children. They made a donation of more than $1,200 to the USO’s United Through Reading Military Program.

When our service men and women are called away from home, their children’s lives change so much. Even story time with mommy or daddy ends when duty calls. Stop, rewind! Not anymore.

Picture this, Daddy sits, in uniform, with a smile on his face and a book in his hand as his child sits on the floor listening to him read his favorite book. Through the diligent effort and loving heart of Linda Robinson, USO’s United Through Reading Volunteer Coordinator, this is happening all overAmerica, even though Daddy is now in Afghanistan.

The UTR program gives our deploying Service Members the opportunity to choose a new children’s book and record a DVD of themselves reading to their child. The book and DVD are mailed back home and once again, its story time and time everyday with Mom or Dad.

Through the generosity of Americans, like the members of the Rockwall Noon Rotary Club, lasting memories are being made. You can join this good news effort by contacting Linda Robinson at lrobinson@uso.org or 972-574-3383.
