Lewisville Lake Symphony presents Veterans Tribute this weekend

Lewisville Lake Symphony will pay tribute to Veterans Day and to the men and women who have served in the U. S. Armed Forces with two performances of “Veteran’s Tribute” on Friday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 13, at Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater.

Tickets are $25 for adults on Friday, $20 for adults on Sunday, and $10 for students at either show. Senior citizens receive a $5 discount. Active-duty military personnel returning from combat deployment, along with their families, can purchase tickets for $5 each. To order tickets, visit LewisvilleSymphony.tix.com or call 800-595-4849. All attendees will receive a free American flag.

The program opens with Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man.” Also featured is Richard Rodgers’ “Victory at Sea” and medleys of tunes from the American frontier and the Civil War. Interspersed in the program are marches by John Philip Sousa, including “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” A program highlight is “Armed Forces Salute” with all five service branch anthems.

Lewisville Lake Symphony moved its Symphony Series this year to the new 296-seat performance hall at MCL Grand, with four shows planned during the 2011-12 season. Remaining programs are “Stars of the Future” on Feb. 17, and “Spring Romance” on April 27 and 29.

The Symphony Series previously had been held at Lakeland Baptist Church in Lewisville. The free Chamber Series will remain at Trinity Presbyterian in Flower Mound. 

Now in its 28th season, the Lewisville Lake Symphony has been recognized by the Texas Senate as one of the most respected, all-professional regional orchestras in the Lone Star State It is one of six local groups receiving funding during 2011-12 from the City of Lewisville arts support grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community.

Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater, located at 100 N. Charles Street, between Main and Church streets, opened in January. The 40,000-square-foot facility features a 296-seat proscenium theater, black box theater, dance recital hall, art gallery, five art classrooms and a large courtyard. Medical Center of Lewisville reached a multi-year agreement with the city last year for naming rights at the center.

To reach the MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center. Parking is not allowed on the grass lot across Church Street from MCL Grand.
