Apply now for Lavon Citizens Police Academy

Adults 18 years or older who live or work in the Lavon area may apply to participate in the next Citizen’s Police Academy, a 14-week course designed to promote an understanding of the Lavon Police Department, its polices and procedures.

Class topics include patrol, criminal investigations, crime scenes, building searches, firearms, criminal law, crime prevention, juvenile law, traffic law and procedures, special operations, jail procedures/tour, medical examiner/tour, school resource, and communications.

Class members will receive “hands on” training similar to that required for new recruits. The “ride-out on patrol” program will allow students insight into a day in the life of a Lavon police officer.

The Lavon Citizens Police Academy is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 23. Classes will meet every Monday for 14 weeks, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (day and time subject to change during holidays).

Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to join the Lavon Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association. Members of LCPAAA donate their time and effort in support of community and civic activities.

For more information or for an application for enrollment, contact Officer C. Tjaden at ctjaden@cityoflavon.org or call 972-843-4219.

The Lavon Police Department is located at 501B Lincoln Ave. Applicants must be at least 18, in good standing with the community, pass a background investigation and either live or work in the Lavon area.
