Share the Season to help local children, pets in need

(Rockwall/Rowlett) Local businesses are making it easy to “Share the Season” and help those in need within the Rockwall and Rowlett communities. 

Visit a participating location to drop off much needed items in specially marked collection bins. Your generous donations will directly benefit the Rainbow Room of Rockwall County, the Rowlett Needy Children’s Fund, and Rockwall PAWS.  

“Share the Season” is a combined effort sponsored by Blue Ribbon News, Savvy Texas Magazine, and Planet Rockwall.  

Collection bins are conveniently located in Rockwall at Elly May’s on the square, KE Cellars at The Harbor, and Old Navy at 2875 Market Center Drive. A collection bin is als located at the Rockwall branch of MidSouth Bank, recently named a DFW “True Blue Business.”

In Rowlett, collection bins can be found at Absolutely Edible Cakes on Rowlett Road, The Hair Gallery, 8809 Lakeview Parkway, Suite 100; and Ace’s Gourmet Paninis, 5121 Rowlett Road. (Read a Blue Ribbon News piece on Ace’s Gourmet Paninis here.) 

Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room assists abused and neglected children and their families, as well as the elderly and handicapped in Rockwall County. Items needed for the Rainbow Room include:

  • Children and adult clothing of all types and sizes, personal hygiene items
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Diapers
  • Baby Formula
  • Children’s Slipper Socks, Warm Socks
  • Gloves
  • Children’s Storybooks
  • Monetary donations, gift cards to be given directly to organization

Rowlett Needy Children’s Fund

The Rowlett Needy Children’s Fund has been helping families since 1975. Founder Diane Ross saw children needing shoes, coats and mittens. RNCF started out by helping eight families and has grown to serve many children, teens and families in need in the local area.

Donations needed for The Rowlett Needy Children’s Fund include:

  • Canned goods
  • Non-perishables
  • New unwrapped toys
  • Hoodies
  • Gently used winter clothing
  • Monetary donations, gift cards to be given directly to RNCF

Rockwall PAWS

Rockwall PAWS is a nonprofit organization that makes spay/neuter services available and affordable through sponsorship of the KCAAP monthly shuttle. Having pets “fixed” reduces the number of homeless and unwanted animals entering shelters. Rockwall PAWS also initiated the treatment of heartworm positive shelter dogs. In the past, all heartworm positive dogs at the shelter were euthanized; now they get adopted. Rockwall PAWS also funds medical/surgical are for injured or ill animals.
