
Wylie ISD contributed more than 50,000 food items to the Wylie Christian Care Center this Thanksgiving.
The AFJROTC cadets at Wylie High and Wylie East collected the items from all 19 campuses and the transportation center on November 16 and 17, and delivered them to the care center’s new warehouse located on Ballard Street.
Representing Wylie High School are Josh Bell, Ian Booth, Robert Bryan, Michael Burress, Maria Escalante, Bryan Gunasekera, Destini Harris, Imelda Hernandez, Kyle Kasher, Ian Lopez, Hector Rodriguez, Jacob Schmitzerle, Alec Smith and Xiong Richard. From Wylie East High School are Jake Dupes, Chris Dao, Dolton Etheridge, Jamie Heuer, A l-Jazer Jakaria, Breanna Figuly, Keon Noh, Taylor Rogers, Sara Simmons, Matt Shuster, Alexis Self, Johnathan Smith, Alexis Sublett and Ethan Sims.
In addition, Superintendent of Schools David Vinson presented a donation to Raymond Cooper, co-founder of the Wylie Christian Care Center, at the annual Wylie Chamber Christian Care Luncheon held November 15 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. District employees contributed more than $10,500 to the center which is used to further assist families in need.
Home-baked goods for Thanksgiving celebrations were offered for sale during the Christian Care Bank Sale Nov. 24 at various local banks, including American National Bank, 301 S. Hwy. 78; American National Bank – Sachse, 5430 Hwy. 78; Capital One – Wylie, 499 S. Hwy 78; Chase Bank, 514 S. Hwy. 78; Inwood National Bank, 200 S. Hwy. 78; Texans Credit Union, 420 S. Hwy 78; and Viewpoint Bank, 921 Westgate Way.
According to organizer Amy Nap with American National Bank, this is the 24th year the bake sale has been held. Volunteers helped prepare cakes, cookies, muffins, pies, breads, candy and cupcakes, and all proceeds benefited the Christian Care Center.
