Cain MS coach named NFL Teacher of the Year finalist

(Rockwall ISD) Feb. 13, 2012 – Maurine Cain Middle School coach and teacher Brad Fichtel has been named one of five NFL Teacher of the Year finalists by the NFL Alumni Association.

The honor is awarded annually to recognize NFL players who have followed their playing careers with excellence in the field of education.

Coach Fichtel was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1993, where he played for two years before signing with the Washington Redskins in 1995. He completed his career with the Dallas Cowboys, where a failed physical ended his professional playing days.

Coach Fichtel was nominated for the award by Cain principal Jason Johnston. He has taught and coached in the Rockwall Independent School District for 10 years. He and his wife, Suzanne Fichtel, attorney and former Assistant Rockwall District Attorney, have lived in Heath with their three sons for nine years.
