Changes to city of Heath’s brush collection services

New contract with IESI includes enhanced service

The Heath City Council approved a new contract with IESI Solid Waste Services during the Dec. 20 Council meeting that will increase the frequency of brush collection without a rate increase to residential customers.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 1, IESI will pick up brush twice a month, instead of just once monthly.

The amount of brush hauled away free of charge remains at three cubic yards per collection. Anything over three cubic yards will continue to be billed at $10 per yard.

The brush pick up will occur during the weeks of the first and third Mondays each month. The brush should be placed curbside by 7 a.m. on the first and third Mondays for collection that week.

Residential customers also now have the option of exchanging their 64-gallon blue recycling polycart for a 95-gallon recycling polycart. The enlarged cart is $1 extra per month.

“With IESI’s support, the City is exploring the possibility of selling recyclables collected from customers directly to processers to achieve greater cost savings,” said City Manager Ed Thatcher.

The new contract allows for the possibility of rate increases if fuel costs spike dramatically or rise for an extended period of time.
