Lorne Liechty announces run for Mayor of Heath

(Heath) Feb. 15, 2012 – Lorne O. Liechty has announced that he is a candidate for election as Mayor of the City of Heath in the election to be held May 12, 2012.

A resident of Heath for more than 25 years, Liechty has served on the City Council since 2004, and as Mayor Pro Tem for the past 2 years.

Liechty is interested in continuing the development of Heath as the premier suburban residential community in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.  He believes that Heath’s priorities should include prudent capital improvements for roads and other infrastructure within the City, expansion and development of the hike and bike trails within the City, encouraging the orderly expansion of commercial business development, and preserving and capitalizing on Heath’s natural beauty.

Liechty is proud of the City’s history of fiscal responsibility and its stable property tax rate during his tenure on the City Council.  While serving on the City Council,  Liechty has also worked to reach agreement on many important initiatives including the Take Line Ordinance, the recent improvements to Terry Park and the passage of legislation creating a municipal management district to encourage additional high quality residential development within the City.

Long active in civic affairs, prior to his election to the City Council Liechty was a member of the Park Board of the City of Heath from its formation until 2004, and served as Chairman of the Park Board for four years.  During his tenure as Chairman of the Park Board, the City secured a grant for the development of, and completed, Town Center Park.  Further, in this capacity Liechty successfully worked for the development of a comprehensive trail plan for the City and for the creation of the Heath Special Events Board.  He has also served as a member of the Home Rule Charter Commission of the City ofHeathand is currently on the Board of the Heath Economic Development Corporation and the Heath Municipal Benefits Corporation.

Liechty is a member, and serves as an elder, at Lake Shore Community Church in Rockwall, and was recently elected to be Chairman of the Board of Directors of Helping Hands of Rockwall County.  Liechty has been married 33 years to his wife Mary.  They have four children (Sarah, Lorne Christopher, Joseph and Harley) and five grandchildren.  He is an attorney and founding partner in the law firm of Liechty & McGinnis, LLP, in Dallas, Texas.  His practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions and corporate law.
