TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation recently announced Laurent Robinson, former wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and his wife Kat, as honorary chairs of the III Forks Golf Classic, Dinner and Auction on May 6-7, 2012.

“We are excited to be a part of this worthy cause and hope we can help raise a lot of money for childhood cancer research,” said Laurent Robinson. “Kat and I are so happy to be a part of the community. Children should not have to suffer from cancer. Until a cure is found, we must work together to be their advocates and fund as much research as possible.”

Guests will gather on Sunday, May 6 at III Forks Steakhouse in Dallas for a dinner and auction. The following day, golfers will tee off at Gleneagles Country Club in Plano for 18 holes followed by an awards party. Last year’s event raised more than $245,000 for TeamConnor and the organization hopes to increase this year’s proceeds from the III Forks Golf Classic.

“With ample resources, we are able to support more research for childhood cancer which is grossly underfunded,” said Jennifer Bolton, executive director of TeamConnor. “Our board recently approved more than $225,000 in funding for several research projects across the country. We have three of the best research facilities in the country working right now on finding answers about childhood cancer, but we need more help.”

Every year, over 12,400 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in the United States alone. Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children and kills more children per year than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, asthma and AIDS combined. Yet the budget of the National Cancer Institute allocates only 3% of its funds to pediatric cancer research. The TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness, supporting families, and funding research and treatment programs to find a cure for all childhood cancers.
