Heart of Heath 5K Easter tradition draws nearly 400

A new feature of the 2012 Heart of Heath was the Bunny Run for children five and under.

(Heath) April 11, 2012 – Glorious spring weather was just one of the draws that attracted 390 registrants to  the Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk presented on April 7 by the City of Heath Special Events Board.

Taking first place in the run was Justin Tokuz with an 18:29 time.

Hunter Beauchamp was second with an 18:44 time, and third place overall was Spencer McKee with an 18:46 time.

Roughly 400 runners and walkers registered for the 2012 Heart of Heath 5k Run/Walk on Easter Saturday.

New features at the 2012 Heart of Heath, traditionally hosted on the Saturday before Easter, included a Little Bunny Run for children five and under.

“Our goal is to continue to make this a hometown tradition that encourages participation by residents and guests of all ages and competitive levels,” said Special Events Board chairman Gayle Kuhrt. “Adding the Bunny Run for the youngest in our community was a fun and entertaining activity that we hope to build upon.”

“The City of Heath appreciates the generous support of the sponsors and prize donors, and thanks the many volunteers and staff for their hard work to make the Heart of Heath a fun and safe time for all,” said Heath Mayor John Ratcliffe, noting that proceeds from the run benefit the Heath’s parks and trails.
