Gabriel Faure wrote Requiem between 1887 and 1890 and it is the best known of his large works, featuring the famed soprano aria Pie Jesu. It was re-worked for full orchestra in 1900, but was not performed in the United States until 1931. Movements from the score have been used in dozens of films, including The Legend of Bagger Vance and American Beauty.

John Rutter rediscovered Faure’s original manuscript of the chamber orchestra version in the national library in Paris in the early 1980s and reintroduced the world to Faure’s work.

The performance on April 21 will feature guest artists Rebecca Winston (soprano) and Timothy Bergan (bass).
