Nov. 13, 2012: One O’Clock Lab Band

The series will start big on Nov. 13, 2012 with the UNT One O’clock Lab Band, the premiere performing ensemble of the internationally acclaimed University of North Texas jazz studies program.

The One O’Clock Lab Band is directed by Steve Wiest, Grammy nominated composer and Associate Professor of jazz studies at UNT. With an unprecedented six Grammy nominations, the One O’Clock Lab Band is noted for exceptional individual musicianship and tight ensemble performance. Home of both the Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson Libraries, One O’Clock Lab Band concerts feature exciting modern large jazz ensemble music, including favorites from these collections in addition to original compositions by current and former students and faculty members.

Feb. 12, 2013: Side Street Strutters

The second performance, on Feb. 12, 2013, will be by the Side Street Strutters, a high energy ensemble.  Feel the searing rhythms of “Sing, Sing Sing,” savor the lush melody “At Last,” and reminisce to “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore” as the Side Street Strutters present a new musical experience showcasing the vocal stylings of Meloney Collins.  Their program, Shiny Stockings, brings together an extensive repertoire, colorful costumes, tap dancing, and 26 years of musicianship to create a performance which breathes new life into songs by the great songstresses.

March 18, 2013: Comedian Robert Post

The comedian, Robert Post, performs on March 18, 2013. Inspired by the sight of his Italian grandmother spontaneously dancing and singing at any family occasion (including funerals) and the classic vaudeville, juggling and specialty acts featured on the Ed Sullivan show, Robert Post created and built a career with his one man-variety show that entertains, engages and enchants.  Be ready to laugh!

May 9, 2013: 42Five

On May 9, 2013, the award-wining acapella quintet, 42Five will perform.  What’s an instrumental band with no instruments? It’s not “magic” or “make believe.” It’s simply the voices of five guys: Ryan, Earl, Geoff, Danny and Layne – known better as 42Five.

They’ve come together to create a new form of entertainment singing songs we all love, from the ’60s to the tunes of today, including Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,” Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” and Three Dog Night’s “Joy to the World.”
