Bobcat roaming Plano neighborhood now has place to call home

(Wylie) May 3, 2012 – It’s happened once again. A bobcat that was previously kept as a pet is now calling In-Sync Exotics his forever home. Right now, we’re calling it a “him,” and we’re pretty sure we’re right, but there’s still a small chance it’s a “her.”

Last week, In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Education Center, located at 3430 Skyview Drive in Wylie, received a phone call about the possibility of accepting a collar-wearing bobcat that had been roaming a Plano neighborhood, presumably having escaped his home. When no one came forward to claim him after Plano Animal Control had captured him, they turned him over to the Plano ISD’s Holifield Science Learning Center in hopes that the center could re-home him.

Jasper

Initially, In-Sync declined due to lack of space. After a second (more desperate) call, we changed our minds. The other options for this cat were all unacceptable in our opinions.

At present, Jasper is in quarantine for a few days, so we can observe him and work on earning his trust. Soon, our veterinarian will give him a thorough exam to 1) assess his overall health, 2) verify gender and 3) remove his collar. After getting a clean bill of health, he will be slowly introduced to Moses and Otis, two male bobcats that also started their lives as pets.

In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Education Center is dedicated to the rescue and lifetime care of abused, neglected, or unwanted exotic cats. There are now 61 exotic cats and one coatimundi calling In-Sync home. This includes three exceptionally rare white lions, a golden tabby tiger, three white tigers and two cheetahs.
