June 15, 2012 – It’s going to be a knock out! The parade and grand opening festivities for the new White Rock Hills Branch Library takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at 9150 Ferguson Road between Buckner and Lakeland.
Come to the library to hear storytellers, see art demonstrations, have someone read a story to you, hear the Dallas Police Department Choir and other musical performers. The landmark event promises to be a fun event for children and their families of all ages, all day long.
Dallas author David W. Menefee will be speaking at 1 p.m.
Reserved parking will be available for the disabled.
The public is invited to march in the parade with African drummers and Aztec dancers. Children can come dressed up as their favorite storybook or fairy tale character, or come as they are. Represent your neighborhood, faith community, school, lodge, or business. Line-up for the parade begins at 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the White Rock Church of Christ at 9220 Ferguson Road.
The White Rock Hills Branch Library is located along the South Fork of Ash Creek directly behind the White Rock church of Christ. The 18,000 sq. ft. facility features an outstanding architectural design with a view of the creek through a glass wall. A courtyard area ties in with limestone components of the 2005 Jacobs Streetscape Plan for Ferguson Road. The building will use Crime Prevention through Environmental Design principles for safety and will be environmentally sensitive.
