Donation to support grant program for local community improvement project
(Lewisville) June 5, 2012 – Keep Lewisville Beautiful and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation today announced a major gift in support of Keep Lewisville Beautiful’s mission to empower the citizens of Lewisville through education to take greater responsibility for enhancing their community environment and engage individuals in local community improvement and environmental projects.
The Lowe’s/Keep America Beautiful Community Improvement Grant of $5,000 is one of 120 merit-based grants awarded nationally to support grassroots community improvement projects ranging from community gardens and tree plantings to litter and debris cleanups, recycling programs, park and playground restorations and beautification efforts.
This Lewisville grant program will provide funding for Keep Lewisville Beautiful’s wildflower planting project on October 27, 2012.
KLB is partnering with the City of Lewisville and Lowe’s to plant native Texas Wildflowers and grasses in areas and parks in conjunction with the national Make A Difference Day and Keep America Beautiful’s Get Growing National Planting Day.
This project is our organization’s largest annual beautification project with a volunteer base of 100+ volunteers who are dedicated to beautifying our great city and is designed to be an annual Smartscape landscaping project that directly engages volunteers to be active in their community, improve community parks for continued outdoor enjoyment, and is a hands-on project that promotes place attachment to outdoor park areas that encourage active and healthy outdoor activities. This project also promotes environmental stewardship and education, as volunteers learn about Smartscape planting and take pride in being involved in a beautification project that continues to expand each passing year.
“By planting native Texas wildflowers, KLB hopes to bring natural beauty and sustainable public spaces to the Lewisville community” said Amy Wells, KLB Executive Director.
The grant program is being supported by Lowe’s company-wide volunteerism effort, Lowe’s Heroes. This initiative offers Lowe’s employees the opportunity to work on a project in their own neighborhood, helping to make their communities better places to live, work and play.
“Keep America Beautiful is proud of the positive impact that Keep Lewisville Beautiful’s project will have in the Lewisville community,” said Keep America Beautiful President and CEO Matt McKenna. “We are truly grateful to Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation for its support and leadership that is being demonstrated in community sustainability.”
