W.E.B. donation to help United States Army Staff Sergeant, Travis Mills, quadruple amputee
(Frisco) June 14, 2012 – Women Enhancing Business, a division of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, regularly offers members participation in community giving opportunities. The organization’s recent Women’s Business expo focused on highlighting vendors and women owned businesses; it was yet another opportunity for the group to give back.
W.E.B. presented a check to the Travis Mills’ Family during its Expo on June 12 at the Cascades Event Center in The Colony. Accepting the check of $500 was Mills’ mother-in-law, Tammy Buck and her niece, Mandy Bishop. Both women have been advocates for fundraising for the family, manage the Travis Mills website and have spent many weeks traveling to and from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland helping Travis, wife Kelsey and their young daughter Chloe.
United States Army Staff Sergeant, Travis Mills, of the 82nd Airborne on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, was critically injured on April 10 by an IED (improvised explosive device) while on patrol, losing portions of both legs and both arms. He is only the fourth quadruple amputee from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to survive his injuries. While accepting the check, Buck shared that another quadruple amputee, from Afghanistan, was just added to that horrific list since Travis’ accident.
Guest speaker, “Single Mom Next Door” Tania Boughton, and author of Eating Light Done Right spoke during the event. Hoping to “inspire and empower women to avoid eating from through emotions,” she shared her success story and the obstacles that she has overcome to be the best working mom she can be. Most W.E.B. women can relate to challenges of working and juggling family life. The group meets the second Tuesdays of the month.
