Come out to the Rockwall County Veteran’s Memorial, located at 950 TL Townsend Drive in Rockwall, at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 14 to participate in the Pushups for Charity Challenge, benefiting our wounded military.
Pushups for Charity is an alliance of many of the world’s most respected fitness professionals who have come together to support worthy charities by providing free fitness coaching and exercise programming to all who participate in a Pushups for Charity event, or sponsor someone participating.
The Rockwall Pushups for Charity Challenge is open to the public and encourages participation from everyone regardless of their fitness level. Run by Paul Britt of Britt’s Training Systems, a gym located at 207 County Line in Rockwall, Pushups for Charity is a fun way to get fit and make a difference by supporting the Boot Campaign, an non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and men and women of the U.S. Armed Services who have come back home and could use a hand.
Take the Challenge yourself, donate in support of the Boot Campaign, or just come out to the Veteran’s Memorial to see who can do the most pushups in 90 seconds.
“Our goal is two-fold,” explained Britt. “We want to show our support for our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and security, and we want to engage our local community in a fun way to get fit. This is our 2nd year to hold Pushups for Charity in Rockwall. Last year we raised $4,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project and our hope is to double that this year.”
He added that the community is really rising to the challenge. “There is a lot of interest in Pushups for Charity. I think that says a lot about our community’s interest in supporting wounded warriors, and is a reflection of how much people appreciate the importance of being healthy. We even have the support of President George H.W. Bush, as he gave a great testimonial to us last year.”
Pushups are one of the foundational exercises for overall body strength and lean muscle development. Lean muscle increases metabolic activity so the body burns more calories. Additionally, pushups are a simple exercise anyone can do almost anywhere.
“Pushups are a gateway exercise,” said Britt. “People feel results quickly, sometimes within days, and that inspires them to do more exercise.”

The Boot Campaign
The Boot Campaign is a grassroots military appreciation and veteran awareness campaign started by five women from Texas, known as the Boot Girls. The Boot Girls launched the Boot Campaign in 2009 to spread awareness of the needs of military personnel returning home from combat and express gratitude to current military. Through the sale of military combat boots, the Boot Campaign donates proceeds to a group of partner charities that work with soldiers healing from a variety of physical and emotional combat wounds, embodying the campaign motto that, “When They Come Back, We Give Back.” For more information, visit BootCampaign.com.
