Trinity Christian Academy welcomes new head baseball coach

(Dallas) July 2, 2012 – Trinity Christian Academy has announced Don English as a new, full-time head baseball coach. English has accumulated a record of 531 wins throughout his career and has coached the West Mesquite, Highland Park, Plano East, Coppell and Plano West baseball program over the past 25 years.

“We are thrilled to have Coach English join the Trinity Christian Academy community and lead our baseball program,” said TCA Headmaster Dave Delph. “Athletics at Trinity are vital to providing a well-rounded culture for student success. Coach English has a long history of accomplishments with his career, and we are looking forward to what he will bring to our baseball program.”

In English’s recent position as head coach at Coppell High School, he reached the playoffs eight out of nine years, accumulating a 95-32 district record. English also coached for the Niagara Power in the NY Collegiate League and was the director of baseball operations for the Coppell Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate League.

In addition to his records, Coach English has been named “Coach of the Year” five times (1992, 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2009).  English has also sent many players to play college and professional baseball.  He currently has six former players who are active on Division I rosters, one of which, Austin Elkins, was drafted in the recent Major League Baseball draft.  He has 16 additional former players who have played Division I and/or Major League Baseball in the last 25 years.

Coach English is a highly recognized and respected leader in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, serving as a member of the board and as president.  Ordained a Baptist deacon, Coach English helps serve in the youth ministry of The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson.  He has been actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the last thirty years, leading student groups in every school district in which he has taught.

While playing college baseball for the University of Texas and coaching legend, Cliff Gustafson, Coach English earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from East Texas State University. He and his wife, Beverly, have been married for more than 30 years and have three adult sons.
