City remains in Stage2 water restrictions

Twice-a-week watering restrictions will remain in effect for the City ofRockwalluntil further notice to achieve the goal of reducing water usage by 10 percent and help meet long-term water needs in this area.

The Board of Directors of the city’s water supplier – the North Texas Municipal Water District – recently voted to remain in Stage 2 of their water conservation and drought contingency plan.

Sprinklers or irrigation systems can be used no more than two days per week as needed, and residents are asked to turn off their sprinkler systems and skip watering if their area receives rainfall within a couple days of a scheduled watering day.

Restrictions also include not using sprinklers or irrigation from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Soaker hoses and drip irrigation systems can be used for up to two hours on any day for foundations and trees.

Rainfall and meeting water reduction goals were cited by the board as the reasons for remaining in Stage 2.

Rockwall’s water district service area consists of more than 1.6 million people.

Fees set for equipment rentals

The Rockwall City Council recently approved rental rates for a portable restroom and a 16’x16’ mobile stage.

The city purchased both pieces of equipment to reduce the need to rent them for its recreation programs and special events. Now they will be available for rent when not being used by the city.

Accepting the recommendation of the city’s Park Board, council members agreed to a rental fee of $2,000 daily for the portable restroom and a half-day charge of $1,200 for less than six hours, plus a damage deposit of $300 and additional fees as needed. The portable stage rental fee will be $350 a day, which includes delivery, setup and pickup.

The fees will be the same for all organizations regardless of its for-profit or non-profit status.

The council also agreed that the equipment cannot be rented for use outside of the Rockwall City Limits.
