Footwashers to revamp homes, Richardson YMCA at Pete Burks First Annual Day of Service

Richardson-based ministry to tackle largest service project to date

(Richardson) September 14, 2012 – Footwashers Ministries, Inc., a Richardson-based Christian non-profit organization which helps needy, elderly and special needs families, will tackle their largest scale project to date on September 22.

The ministry is expecting several hundred volunteers to come together to revamp 27 plus homes with tasks such as painting, fence repair and replacement, landscaping and tree removal.

Footwashers will also take on a much needed update to the Richardson YMCA.

The entire event is in memory of  TCA alumnus Pete Burks, whose life represented the mission of Footwashers. Second Lieutenant Burks was killed in Iraq in November 2007 while serving in the United States Army.

“It is our honor to kick off this annual event in honor of Pete,” said Adam Kanneman, executive director for Footwashers.  “Pete was an amazing Christian man and an even better friend.  This event is an amazing way to serve the community and honor a friend.  We look forward to remembering him each year in this way.”

Footwasher locates needs in local communities, connects Christian churches, groups, or organizations to the needs, in order to help the groups impact their immediate community. Footwashers connects real, local needs with real, local Christians with the goal of enabling those Christians to wash the feet of their neighbors (John 13:12). They seek out compassionate groups, churches, and organizations willing to engage their local community for the call of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). Through identifying local needs, their program connects local Christians in order to help them become self-sufficient in impacting their immediate neighbors or community.

Footwashers has completed more than 30 projects and was recently recognized by the Richardson City Council and received a proclamation from the Richardson Mayorfor its work in the community.

The Pete Burks First Annual Day of Service is open to the public and begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Richardson YMCA, 821 Custer Road in Richardson, 75080.
