Garland ISD welcomes campus staff with breakfast

(Garland) August 21, 2012- School buildings are once again fully staffed as Garland ISD prepares for the first day of classes on August 27.

The district welcomed close to 400 new campus professionals at an orientation August 15, where they were treated to breakfast before receiving instruction about GISD. Employees were also introduced to district administrators and school board members.

“We’re committed to hiring quality educators that will uphold the standard of excellence GISD is known for,” said Victor Leos, executive director of Human Resources. “I believe these staff members will do just that, and I wish them well in the 2012-13 school year.”

New employees were also invited to a Teachers Need Teachers event on August 16, where they were paired with a mentor from their campus and encouraged by a speech from Patrick Briggs, AVID Texas State Director.

“He was one of the top five speakers I’ve heard,” said Couch Elementary Principal Susanne Hill. “While dynamic in presentation, his message was even more profound. He spoke about equity and how it truly means that every student succeeds.”

All GISD campus professionals returned to work on August 17. After a week of Staff Development, they will be ready to welcome students on the first day of school.
