(Rockwall ISD) August 22, 2012 – Rockwall ISD is proud to announce that Cody Hayes, Rockwall High School’s Culinary Arts Chef-Instructor, has been named as one of three secondary state finalists in the Texas Association of School Administrators Teacher of the Year Program. Chef Hayes was first named the Rockwall ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in May, then advanced to the Region 10 level of the competition.
On August 14, Chef Hayes and the Rockwall ISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Autumn Quinton were honored at a luncheon hosted by Region 10, an education service center for school districts in north Texas. At the event, Chef Hayes was chosen as the Secondary Teacher of the Year for Region 10, becoming the first teacher in the history of Rockwall ISD to advance to the next level of the competition.
On Monday, August 20, at the Rockwall ISD staff Convocation, Superintendent Jeff Bailey announced that Chef Hayes has been selected as one three secondary finalists in the state of Texas. He will be interviewed by an independent panel in Austin next month. One elementary and one secondary teacher of the year will be named Texas Teachers of the Year for 2013 where they will serve as spokespersons for public education and are honored at a special ceremony in Austin later this year.
“The privilege of representing Rockwall ISD and Region X as their Teacher of the Year is a true blessing and something I didn’t think would ever happen to me,” said Chef Hayes. “There are many deserving educators in our school district and region, and for me to be recognized in this way is exciting, humbling and definitely motivating. I look forward to representing RISD and Region 10 as a state finalist in Austin.”
