Rockwall ISD Convocation begins new school year

(Rockwall ISD) August 20, 2012 – Nearly 2,000 employees attended the annual Rockwall Independent School District Convocation on Monday, August 20. New and returning teachers, administrators and employees were joined by the RISD Board of Trustees and numerous business and community leaders to kick-off a new school year.

Superintendent Jeff Bailey returned as the keynote speaker this year with a message about advances in technology.

“Apple would like us to believe that there is an app for everything. But I know that there is no app that can console a kindergartener on their first day of school. There is no app that can put a band-aid on a scraped knee and no app that can be a shoulder to cry on for a frustrated student,” said Bailey as he addressed his staff. “There is no technology that is equipped to do what you do each day to touch the lives of our students.”

Attendees also enjoyed performances by the Rockwall ISD staff band and choir ensemble from Rockwall-Heath High School. Rockwall ISD teachers across the district will continue in-service training and preparation for the start of school on August 27.
