Lake Pointe Imaging Center earns Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation

September 25, 2012 – Lake Pointe Imaging Center in Rockwall, an expansion of Lake Pointe Health Network, based in Rowlett, recently received the American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Center of Excellence Designation.

The BICOE is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. The center is specifically accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

“We are honored to receive the center of excellence designation as it recognizes our commitment to serving patients with a high quality of care and customer service,” said Debbie Moeller, RN, chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer for Lake Pointe Health Network. “With patient safety as a top priority, this designation is a testament to the dedication of our staff to meeting and exceeding patient expectations each and every day.”

The Mammography Accreditation Program provides facilities with peer review and constructive feedback on staff qualifications, equipment, quality control, quality assurance, image quality and radiation dose. The 1992 Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) requires that all mammography facilities in the United States be accredited.

Patients can be assured that LPHN and physicians ordering breast imaging have gone through a rigorous review process to meet these nationally accepted standards.  This accreditation is further evidence that LPHN personnel are well-qualified and have gone through the education and certification processes necessary to perform and interpret medical images and administer radiation treatments.  It also signifies appropriate equipment is available and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines. 

LPHN adds this accreditation to a growing list of accreditation and awards including a 2012 LeapFrog Group “A” rating in patient safety, the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence award for the Lake Pointe Wound Care Center, and national Quality Respiratory Care recognition for Lake Pointe Medical Center.
