October 6 fun run intended to raise awareness and fund a cure for childhood cancers
(Frisco) September 25, 2012 – On October 6, the Frisco Square will be transformed into a green square, symbolizing childhood cancer awareness.
The Color Me Green 5K & Caterpillar Dash sponsored by AT&T benefits the TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation.
This one of a kind event brings together childhood cancer advocates, survivors, families, the medical community and the public to raise awareness and funds to find a cure.
People of all different speeds, ages, and backgrounds are invited to participate. The festivities will kick off at 7:30 a.m. with registration, pre-race snacks, and the “Get Green Tent” for participants to green up. Participants are encouraged to decorate themselves in green to help raise awareness for childhood cancer. There will be prizes for the most unique and colorful attire.
Race registration is $30 for each participant 13 and older; $20 for ages 6 – 12; children 5 and under are free. For those who can’t participate but would like to contribute, a virtual runner can be purchased for $25. To register for the event or learn more information, visit colormegreen5k.org.
Every year, more than 12,400 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children, yet the budget of the National Cancer Institute allocates only 3% of its funds to pediatric cancer research. The TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and funding research and treatment programs to find a cure for all childhood cancers.
