Rachel’s Challenge assembly challenges Rockwall ISD students

(Rockwall ISD) September 24, 2012 – On Monday, September 17, Cody Hodges, Rachel’s Challenge Certified Trainer, assembled with the entire faculty, staff, and 722 students at Utley Middle School.

Rachel’s Challenge is a program that empowers students and adults with strategies to effectively confront bullying and feelings of isolation with kindness and compassion.  In addition, program supports good character.

During the assembly, the students were posed with five challenges: look for the best in others, treat others the way you want to be treated, choose positive influences, speak words of kindness, and forgive yourself and others.

Afterwards, several students received indepth training from Hodges as they volunteered to step up to become leaders in the efforts to promote Rachel’s Challenge on the campus of Utley.  They will begin the initial planning stages on starting the Friends of Rachel Club that will sustain the impact of the assembly.  We look forward to the lasting positive impact of the work of these students on each other and our community.
