September 9, 2012 – TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation has awarded Dr. Ernesto Flores with the University of California San Francisco San Benioff Children’s Hospital $50,000. This grant will continue funding research focused on integrated genetic and biochemical characterization of hypodiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
According to a ranking by U.S. News & World Report, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals.
“We are so pleased to be able to continue to support research that will get us one step closer to a cure for childhood cancers,” said Jennifer Bolton, executive director of TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation. “Dr. Flores has made significant strides with his cutting edge research of ALL. TeamConnor was founded for this very purpose and our efforts will continue to be focused on funding significant research projects.”
Every year, more than 12,400 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of children, yet the budget of the National Cancer Institute allocates only 3% of its funds to pediatric cancer research. The TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and funding research and treatment programs to find a cure for all childhood cancers.
TeamConnor has several more events planned including the Color Me Green 5K in Frisco on October 6 and the 2nd Annual TeamConnor Clay Shoot on November 8, 2012.
