(Rockwall) October 4, 2012 – Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 7 through 13 and the Rockwall Fire Department will mark the occasion with an open house, school visits and tips for fire safety.
Bring the family to the annual Open House at Fire Station #2, 920 Rockwall Parkway on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This FREE fun family event always draws a large crowd. There will be food, activities for the kids and fire safety tips for home and family along with live demonstrations (sprinkler activation and vehicle extrication). It is also a good time to get to know the city’s firefighters and view their apparatus.
Have Two Ways Out! is the theme of Fire Prevention Week. Statistics show one home structure fire was reported every 85 seconds in 2010 resulting in:
- 13,350 injuries
- 2,640 deaths
- $6.9 billion in damage
